Lockport High School D-205 seeks new board member

LOCKPORT – A new board member is needed at Lockport Township High School District 205.

District officials stated in a news release this week that they are seeking someone to fill a vacant board seat through May 2019 and who will be replaced by a candidate elected to the seat based on April 2019 election results.

District Spokeswoman Kim Brehm said Tuesday that the board accepted the resignation of Tom Petty at Monday's meeting.

According to minutes from a special meeting on May 1, Petty gave the board advanced notice that because of personal business, he has missed four meetings and to be "considerate of the board, he is seriously thinking about tendering his resignation," and was encouraged to do so by his daughter.

Those who are interested must submit a letter expressing interest in the board position and their qualifications for the position by noon on May 30 at district’s administrative center at 1323 E. Seventh St., Lockport.

After reviewing submitted applications, the board will schedule interviews with candidates. Not all of them will be interviewed.

To be a board member, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18, a registered voter, a resident of the state and District 205 for at least one year, not a child sex offender and willing to serve until the April 2019 election.

The letter of interest should include name, address, telephone number, email address, number of years they’ve lived in District 205, leadership positions, professional background, educational background, the reason for applying and goals for the district.
