Woman charged with felony after attack on court security

ST. CHARLES – A woman who was being escorted to detention after her court appearance allegedly lunged at – and spit on – a court security officer, sheriff’s reports stated.

Joyce I. Reeves, 53, of the 600 block of South River Street, Aurora, was charged May 1 with felony aggravated battery of a police officer, following the incident that occurred at Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road, St. Charles, reports stated.

After Kane County Judge Keith Johnson’s ruling on her pending case, Reeves was placed in restraints and escorted to detention, reports stated.

Reeves lunged at the court security officer, yelling profanities and spit in his face, reports stated. The court officer wiped her saliva off his left cheek but still went for a blood test, reports stated.

Johnson said Reeves should be charged with aggravated battery.

As of May 8, Reeves was being held in the Kane County jail on $10,000 bail. Reeves is also charged with assault, two counts of disorderly conduct and theft of services, all misdemeanors, court records show.

The felony charge is punishable by two to five years in prison and fines of up to $25,000.

Her next court date on the aggravated battery charge is scheduled for June 9.
