SYCAMORE – Three local men are out on bond after police said they ran after a traffic stop of a car reported to be stolen.
Andre L. Allen Jr., 18, of the 100 block of East Locust Street, and 20-year-olds Avery R. Maxwell of the 500 block of Persimmon Street in DeKalb and William Todtz of the 200 block of North Dogwood Street in Cortland all posted $150 of their $1,500 bond Thursday afternoon to be released on resisting arrest charges.
A boy who police said was driving the car, which was reported stolen from Aurora, was charged with fleeing to elude, driving without a valid driver’s license, possession of marijuana and possession of stolen credit cards.
DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the boy, who also had an outstanding warrant, is being held at the juvenile detention center in Kane County.
A sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the vehicle at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday on Route 23 near Steak ‘n Shake in DeKalb after running its plates and learning it was stolen, Scott said. The driver sped off and broke multiple traffic laws, and the deputy was forced to follow at a distance because of traffic congestion, Scott said. He said the deputy found the unoccupied vehicle shortly afterward on Greenwood Acres Drive near Sycamore Road.
Sycamore and DeKalb police helped locate the four people, who were all relatively close together, Scott said.
“It was actually a K-9 officer who found them,” Scott said. “They didn’t have much time to separate.”
Allen and Todtz are both scheduled to be back in court at 9 a.m. May 22, and Maxwell is due in court at 9 a.m. May 23.
