It’s hard to miss the Wilcox family’s work.
You’ve probably grabbed a taco, bought a couch or picked up some Craftsman tools in one of the buildings that Adam Wilcox Construction has had a hand in.
The Wilcoxes have pretty well cemented their legacy throughout the Twin Cities and beyond with their steel buildings – not too surprising when your consider construction runs in the family, and owner Adam Wilcox is the latest member to build on his family’s past.
Adam’s grandfather brought his family to Sterling in 1965 where he worked at Bullock Garage and Home Builders. His son, Adam’s father, Bob, started out helping his dad on weekends before working there full-time in 1969.
Bob eventually started building homes in 1977 before becoming a dealer for Cuckler Steel Buildings in 1982. Cuckler was bought out by Star Building Systems in 1986, and Bob continued as an affiliate of Star, building a successful business with his wife, Jeanne.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Adam started helping out his dad at a young age, eventually becoming part of the business. In 2014, Bob passed on the business to Adam.
Today, the Wilcox Construction is an award-winning company – in 2016, it earned a 30 Years of Excellent Service Award from Star – with three full-time and two part-time employees. It’s hard to miss their concrete flat work and farm, residential and commercial steel buildings.
“Our most recent line of work has been in the ag building industry, for storage and office space,” Katie said. “We are working on a warehouse building at Foster Coach in Sterling. We have also done many buildings locally, including Don Pedro’s, Peabudy’s, Sears, Martin’s Furniture, Harolds Furniture, and the McCormick Complex in Sterling, and Centennial Plaza in Rock Falls, to name a few,” she said.
Katie said the company keeps busy year-round
“We were able to complete a building in the fall, and continue the interior through the cold months by finishing framing, drywall, and a rec area. The personal rec area included a bar area complete with television, gaming, and refrigeration, and was topped off with diamond-plated features,” she said.
And if you want to know how much faith the company puts in its products, just ask the Adam and Katie. The family lives in one of their residential steel buildings, where the next generation of Wilcox builders might just be waiting in the wings.
