Roundup: Oswego East third at its girls track invite

GIRLS TRACK

Oswego East Invite: The host Wolves scored 73.5 points to finish behind Bolingbrook (106) and Batavia (103.5) at its invitational on April 15. Oswego East won the 1,600 relay in 4:12.28. Maya Taylor had a season-best 17 feet, 7.75 inches to win the long jump. The Wolves took second in the 3,200 relay (10:11.18) and Abby Flammersfeld was second in the 1,600 with a personal-best 5:31.02 and Alexis Henz was second in the 800 with a 2:30.11 PR.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Oswego East varsity: Cade Harrison had seven kills in the Wolves' 25-23, 25-19 win over Plainfield Central on April 11. Sam Behnke had four aces and 19 assists for the Wolves (9-5, 2-2 Southwest Prairie). Behnke's big serving in the second half of Game 2 put things away.

The Wolves lost to Plainfield South 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 on April 13. Harrison and Isaiah Robinson each had 10 kills. Zeke Rivera added seven kills, Behnke had 26 assists and Ben Jorgensen 13 digs.

Oswego East freshmen: The Wolves took first place in the Silver Division at the Naperville Central tournament, their best-ever finish there.

SOFTBALL

Oswego East freshmen: Grace Klingbeil doubled in Olivia Wells in the top of the ninth, and Kassy Krahulik threw nine scoreless innings for Oswego East in a 1-0 win over Oswego on April 17. Wells and Ashley Squires each had two hits for the Wolves (10-0). Oswego East previously won a doubleheader with DeKalb on April 15. Oswego East has seven homers on the season, two each from Mady Johnson, Aubrae Lewis and Wells and one from Carly Engelhardt.

BASEBALL

Oswego East sophomores: Liam Geoffroy went 3-for-4 and had a single in the Wolves' nine-run second inning, and Oswego East went on to beat Romeoville 12-2 on Tuesday. Jakob Dirksen struck out eight over five innings to earn the win for the Wolves (13-2, 4-0 Southwest Prairie).

Collin Witzke struck out 12 and allowed just two hits for the Wolves in a 10-0 win over Romeoville on April 17. Cameron Knauss and Witzke each went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Wolves.

Oswego sophomores: Matt Sorrells struck out five and scattered seven hits for the Panthers in a 2-0 loss to Minooka on April 11. Garry Maynard, Gavin Kaluf and Sorrells had singles for OHS while Hayden Bielawski doubled for the Panthers. Maynard was the hard-luck 7-0 loser on April 12. Bielawski doubled and Luke Menard singled for Oswego's only hits on the day.

Oswego East freshmen: Nate Jendraszkievicz no-hit DeKalb and struck out nine, Alex Kelsch had four hits and Andrew Petsche homered to beat the Barbs on April 15. Donovan Place homered in Game 2. Tyler Heidkamp struck out seven to lead the Wolves past Romeoville on April 17.

Oswego freshmen: Jack Lemke went 3-for-4 with a double, and Nikolai Sardo added a double as part of a two-hit day, but the Panthers fell to 0-2 in conference play with a 12-4 loss at Minooka. Josh Grimes pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Panthers, striking out the side in the sixth inning.
Minooka broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the sixth inning, handing the Panthers a 5-2 loss in their Southwest Prairie Conference opener. Jack Lemke pitched five scoreless innings for Oswego, holding Minooka to three hits. Darren Mancke had a pair of hits for the Panthers, and drove in both Oswego runs.
