Liberty 5K Run/Walk registration now open
Registration is now open for the 8th annual Liberty 5K Run/Walk. event will take place on July 3 at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Morris. Beginning at Liberty and Jefferson streets, the course will take you through nostalgic downtown Morris, area parks, neighborhoods and returns downtown on Liberty Street. The course is completely paved, primarily flat, with some slight hills for a fast and enjoyable race. This event is a chip timed race on a certified course and honors, supports and recognizes our military personnel. The cost is $25.00 for pre-registered participants (by June 30) and $35.00 for those who register the day of the race. Registration for those 14 and under is reduced to $18.00 for those pre-registered. To register or download an application, visit http://www.liberty5k.com. Saratoga Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2017-18 school year will be held at Saratoga School on Wednesday, April 26. Children living in the Saratoga Community Consolidated School District can register between the hours of 1 and 6 p.m. in the North Building. Please enter Door No. 18.
To register, children must be five years on or before Sept. 1, 2017. Parents must present a birth certificate at registrtion time to verify their child's age. The birth certificate must be from the county in which the child was born. Hospital certificates are not honored. Also, new families to Saratoga School must bring proof of residency in order to register their child. Examples of accepted documentation afe a mortgage statement if you own your own home or lease if you rent your home. You must bring your child's birth certificate and proof of residency before you will be able to register your child. If you have questions about proof of residency, please call the office at 815-942-5970. After you proivde the proper documentation, you will sit at a computer and complete the online registration.
All children entering kindergarten must have a physical examination with required immunizations, dental exam and eye exam. Please schedule your appointments early.

Grundy County Historical Society
Paul Mayer of The Field Museum of Chicago will speak at the Grundy County Historical Society monthly meeting. He will talk about the Tulley Monster, our state fossil, as well as the specimens being loaned to the Grundy County Historical Society and Museum. Mayer is Collection Manager III, Gantz Family Collection Center, Collection Management, Paleontology, and is responsible for two million fossil specimens.
The Field Museum is loaning our museum a number of the Mazon fossils donated to it by Grundy County residents, specifically Mr. Frank Green and Judge Bedford. It has been decided that the specimens the museum will loan to us are to be fauna as we have many fine flora specimens already on view. We expect the fossils will come into our museum shortly after April 25 and will be here for a one-year loan.

Bingo Blingo at Newark American Legion
The Newark American Legion Auxiliary Post 459 in Newark will be hosting Paparazzi Jewelry Bingo Blingo with a Cinco de Mayo theme. Everyone is welcomed to attend on Friday May 5. Doors open at 6:30 with Bingo Blingo starting at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 to play, which gets you four pieces of jewelry and a chance to win more jewelry throughout the evening. There is $3 cover charge at the door that includes nachos with cheese. Drinks will also be available for purchase. The American Legion is located at 606 Fennel Road off of Rt 71. Music teachers welcome Dr. Eric Sutz
The Joliet Area Music Teachers Association will meet Friday, April 21 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the University of St. Francis in the Moser Performing Arts Center, Sexton Auditorium. Dr. Eric Sutz will begin his presentation on Classical Improvisation at 10 a.m. Dr. Sutz is an eminent Chicago-area musician and musical instructor. He is a pianist, guitarist, choir director, conductor of orchestra and band, and musical instructor with many years of experience in developing improvisational skills. In his presentation, Eric will share the "licks" used by all classical composers to improvise over a set of basic chord changes. His steps to improvise will be outlined on handouts. Audience participation will be encouraged so please bring your collection of sonatas and sonatinas to share. This presentation is free and open to the public. Mothers Day Breakfast
A Mother's Day breakfast, sponsored by Friends of the Center for Disability Services, will be held Sunday. May 7 at the Center for Disability Services, 311 S. Reed St. in Joliet, from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The menu will include pancakes, sausage and biscuits and gravy. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for seniors and for children under 10.
