Lakewood Tax-Fighter Party member Paul Serwatka wins village president race

LAKEWOOD – Paul Serwatka, a member of the Lakewood Tax-Fighter Party, will take the helm as village president.

Paul Serwatka had 588 votes, or about 70 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results Tuesday night. Kenneth Santowski, a write-in candidate, had about 246 votes, or about 29 percent of votes.

Serwatka ran on the Lakewood Tax-Fighter Party a slate with three trustee candidates in an effort to gain a majority on the Village Board to lower the village's property tax levy. Serwatka has not taken a village paid salary since he was elected two years ago.

Santowski was a former trustee who originally was on the ballot but withdrew from the race and resigned from his board seat in December. He jumped back into the race last month as a write-in. He previously said he resigned after receiving an anonymous, viable threat against his family, but his family and friends encouraged him to get back in the running as a write-in candidate.
