Sauk Valley Media presents a series of guest columns by candidates in key contested races in the April 4 election. Candidates were invited to write up to 400 words about why voters should support them. Today's race: Dixon School Board.
My name is JR Humphrey. I am 29 years old. I reside in Dixon, where I farm corn, soybeans and alfalfa along with around a 150-head cow-calf operation.
I graduated in 2005 from Dixon High. I followed with an associate’s degree from Black Hawk College in Kewanee, then furthered my education and graduated with a bachelor’s in animal science, with an emphasis on business management, from Kansas State University.
Through my youth, I was active in 4-H and showing livestock, mainly cattle, until I was 21.
After graduation, I returned home to help with not only the farm but also the family garbage company, Affordable Waste, until 2014.
I am running mainly because I feel like we need a different approach to solve some of the issues facing our district and to bring back, hopefully, not only an ag and FFA program but to bring the district up to the current demands of our community, and to the needs of the job force and what society has to offer.
I am a very forward thinker, and I like to solve problems with unconventional solutions. I look forward to helping the community move forward.
