JOLIET – Local athletes from Dreamz Elite Allstars nabbed a first place competitive all-star cheerleading title at the American Classic National Championship competition in Schaumburg at the end of March.
Members of Dreamz Elite Allstars won first place in the Youth Level 1 division. The youth team, comprised of local athletes’ ages 5 to 11 years old, also currently ranked number two in the Midwest Challenge Cup race for all Level 1 teams. The Dream Girls Youth 1 team has finished in the top 3 in every competition they have attended this season.
Launched in 2012 by former Chicago Luvabull cheerleader, Kimberly Scherp, the program has grown 300 percent to become Chicago Southland’s leading competitive all-star cheer program.
Today, eight professional coaches train upwards of 50 athletes traveling from Chicago, Coal City, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Mokena, Manhattan, Kankakee, Lockport, Romeoville, and as far away as Indiana.
Dreamz Elite offers teams for all ages and skill levels as well as instruction for tumbling, birthday parties and gym rental for school and recreational cheer teams. Evaluations for the upcoming 2017 – 2018 season were held in early May, Everyone makes a team.
Under the direction of the United States All Star Federation, the nation’s estimated 450,000 all-star cheerleaders typically compete in seven different age ranges (tiny, mini, youth, junior, senior, international and special needs), as well as two squad sizes (small and Large) and six competition skill levels (L1-L6).
Unlike school-based cheer squads, all star cheerleading teams compete against other all star teams at the local, regional and national levels. All star cheerleaders train year round to perfect their stunts, tumbling, pyramids, jumps and dance routines that are choreographed to music. Routines are judged for skill difficulty, sharpness of motion, originality and proper execution.
Area residents joined Dreamz Elite Allstars to get their pictures taken with members of the Chicago Bulls Luvabulls.
Dreamz Elite Allstars Inc. is a member of the U.S. All Star Federation (USASF), the governing body for all-star cheer and dance, and serves the top cheerleading and tumbling athletes in Chicago’s Southland.
The program is located at 16732 Cherry Creek Court in Joliet, just west of Lincoln Way West High School between Spencer Road and West Laraway Road.
