ELBURN – Twenty-nine teachers from John Stewart Elementary School in Elburn swapped books, computers and lesson plans March 9 for jobs at the local McDonald's to raise money for the Parent Teacher Network.
By greeting guests, serving drinks, clearing tables and working the front counter, the teachers took away a share of the restaurant's profits that night, stated a McDonald's news release.
Dubbed "McTeacher's Night," the annual event has been held at least six years, said the McDonald's franchise community relations director Julie Travers.
"It is such a wonderful way for the community to come together," she said.
On "McTeacher's Night," students and their families were served – literally – by John Stewart teachers. To add extra fun, teacher Nicole Dyche set up a photo scavenger hunt for the kids. Students who took pictures and sent them to her by a certain time the next day received $5 McDonald's gift cards and small prizes. Seven students took part, Dyche said.
Also on hand were Ronald McDonald, the Kaneland Knight mascot and Dr. Todd Leden, the district superintendent, stated the release.
PTN President Jenny Wold organized the event.
The John Stewart school will use money raised for PTN school projects.
