Why Delisi was selected:

Delisi scored 19 points, including the game-winning jumper with four seconds left, to help the North Stars hand Geneva its first loss of the season 62-60 in overtime.

St. Charles North senior guard Anthony Delisi wanted redemption. Not only did the North Stars fall in double overtime the last time they took on Geneva, but this time around Delisi had his layup at the end of regulation fall just short, forcing overtime. He got another chance in a wild finish at home, coming off a screen to hit the game-winning jumper with four seconds left in overtime. Delisi, the St. Charles Bank & Trust Athlete of the Week, caught up with Kane County Chronicle correspondent Chris Casey after the win.

Casey: How badly did you want to take that shot in overtime, especially after the miss at the end of regulation?

Delisi: I definitely did. We kept saying ‘Next play.’ You have to move on after something doesn’t go your way. We know everyone makes mistakes, but I think we had guys step up at the right times and make huge plays for us.

Casey: What did it mean to you guys to hand Geneva its first loss of the season?

Delisi: Yeah, there was definitely a chip on our shoulder coming into the game. You always want to be that team, like in baseball to be the guy to end a perfect game. It’s a great victory for us, but now we have to focus on the postseason.

Casey: What was the biggest key to this win?

Delisi: Honestly, we said in the locker room that it was a team win. There were so many big plays down the stretch. I know a lot of people are going to talk about the shot at the end, but there were so many other things that contributed to this win.
