Coal City Schools take a trip back in time as the intermiediate school celebrates 100 years

COAL CITY – Coal City Intermediate School will ask former students and history buffs to take a walk down memory lane this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

The school was the Coal City High School from 1916 until 1971, when it was turned into the middle school from 1971 until 2000. Today it is the district's intermediate school.

Carol Talty, a Coal City alum, said the event was planned to give everyone a chance to walk down memory lane..

"The rooms will be filled with artifacts and memorabilia," Talty said.

They've also lined up a list of entertainment in the south gym starting at 1:30 until 3:45 p.m. including Rachel Drauden, former Coal City High School singer, as well as area dance centers and the high school winter guard, jazz band and poms.

Each room will feature a decade of the 100 years since the building was built.

Talty said there will be refreshments in the cafeteria and a chance to visit with special guests.
