ST. CHARLES – A long-range barrage helped lead St. Charles East to a big win against St. Charles North in the third meeting between the teams Jan. 31.
The Saints drained 12 3-pointers through three quarters – on 23 attempts – as they went on to win the Upstate Eight River game 67-57.
Justin Hardy, who finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, drained three treys, as did Alec Champine (11 points) and sophomore Charles Murphy (nine points). Zach Robinson and Nathan Ortiz added seven points apiece for the Saints.
Kyle King finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds for North while senior guard Anthony Delisi had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists.
East followed its win with a 61-46 victory against Galesburg on Feb. 4 to improve to 14-7 overall.
North topped Elgin 47-32 on Feb. 3 to improve to 6-3 in UER play, but lost on the road against St. Joseph 75-68 on Feb. 4 to slip to 14-6 overall.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marmion
Sam Doroff scored a game-high 15 points, but Marmion lost 67-50 in a Chicago Catholic League game against Loyola on Feb. 3.
Jett Haas scored 12 points, Mick Sullivan added 11 and Ethan Bowman scored eight, but the Cadets slipped to 3-18 overall and 0-9 in CCL play.
GIRLS BOWLING
Geneva
The Vikings fell short of a team sectional berth with a score of 4,122 at the Metea Valley regional Feb. 4, but Maddie Voss moved on individually to the Oak Lawn sectional with a 1,090 score.
St. Charles East
Strong showings from Meagan Markovich (1,146), Lorna Lopez (1,132), Cassandra Cartee (1,079) and Emma Vitallo (1,037) powered the Saints to third place at the Lake Park regional Feb. 4.
Courtney McCarron (573) and Samantha Fisher (240) also helped East move on as a team to the Fremd sectional at Arlington Lanes on Feb. 11.
St. Charles North
Junior Alyssa Byers posted a 1,309 score to win the individual title at the Lake Park regional Feb. 4. Her score was 10 pins ahead of runner-up Emily Tornabene from Lake Park, which won the team title with a 5,645 total. North placed second (5,220) to move on to the Fremd sectional at Arlington Lanes on Feb. 11.
Seniors Claire Sebastian (1,143) and Brooke Paulson (966) were the Nos. 2 and 3 bowlers for North. Sophomores Jordan Walters (770) and Faith Maranion (766) and senior Christy Koonce (266) also contributed.

St. Charles East
A score of 81.91 in the Feb. 3 prelims sent the Saints to the state finals, where they tallied an 82.63 to place eighth in the state in the large team division.

Batavia
Justin Major (second at 132 pounds), Seth Winkle (third at 145) and Joe Posledni (third at 160) survived the Bulldogs’ tough Class 3A regional Feb. 4 to move on to the Downers Grove North sectional.
Burlington Central
Austin Macias (126 pounds), Nick Termini (132) and Erik Hansen (195) were champs at the Class 2A Sycamore regional Feb. 4. They earned first-round byes at the Sterling sectional.
Sean McMillan made the 152 final and placed second to also earn a sectional berth for the Rockets.
Geneva
Nick Sowers (160 pounds) strode to the top of the awards podium at the Class 3A West Chicago regional Feb. 4 to lead a slew of Vikings into the Conant sectional.
Honor Nguyen (113), Kevin Huck (145) and Cole Campbell (220) placed second to move on, while Michael Donatelli won his third-place match at 138 to earn a sectional spot.
Marmion
Six champions led a parade of Cadets to the awards podium as Marmion captured the team title at the Class 3A Batavia regional Feb. 4.
Michael Jaffe (106 pounds), Trevor Chumbley (126), Anthony Cheloni (138), Brad Gross (152), Nate Jimenez (160) and Peter Ferraro (170) were Marmion’s champs. They earned first-round byes at the Downers Grove North sectional.
Jake Polka (145) made the finals and placed second, while Jacob Tinajero (113), Nathan Callaway (132) and Tyler Surges (195) won third-place matches.
St. Charles East
The Saints owned the lower weights and had a few champs at the upper weights as they won the team title at the Class 3A West Chicago regional Feb. 4.
Joe Ruffino (106 pounds), Ben Anderson (113), Justin Benjamin (120) and Lucson Schneider (126) took home regional titles, as did Max Hatch (170), Cody Glidewell (182) and Max Schumann (285).
Louis Gordon (132) and Niko Derain (138) were runners-up at their weights, while Tommy Schneider (145) and Justin Hall (220) won third-place matches to make the sectional.
St. Charles North
Kolbe O’Brien won the 132-pound title at the Class 3A West Chicago regional Feb. 4 to move on to the Conant sectional. Chad Reynolds (152) and Dominic Testa (160) placed second to also qualify for the sectional field.
St. Francis
Ben Bougadis (113 pounds), Vincent D’Orazio (126), Stan Hilger (138), Colin James (145), Daniel Dickerson (152) and Daniel Skold (170) all moved on from the Class 2A Fenton regional Feb. 4 to the Wauconda sectional.
