ELMHURST – An Elmhurst bridal shop in the 300 block of York Street was destroyed by a fire Jan. 26. According to a release from the city of Elmhurst, firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:37 p.m. and fought the blaze into the night.

Fire companies remained on scene throughout the night, applying water and extinguishing hot spot fires in the building.

Crews from Elmhurst fire and police, along with the DuPage County Arson Task Force, will now begin to search through the building to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

There were no reports of injuries, and York Road is now open to traffic.

The bridal shop, VIP Occasions Inc., has been in business for 26 years and is owned by two sisters, Nicole Samardzija and Natalie Krstev.

According to the business’ Facebook page, any damaged/destroyed merchandise will be given top priority.

Once the area is secure, VIP Occasions will set up a temporary shop at York Medical Center, which is located at 363 N. York Road.

As of Jan. 27, the business posted that it will inform its designers of the current situation.

“We will provide them with our temporary shipping address and contact information to ensure no special orders will be missed,” the post stated.

If customers have any questions regarding purchased merchandise, they can call 630-833-4696 and the business will try and reach out to them.

The city of Elmhurst also continues to work with the owners, as well as adjacent residents, to provide any assistance they may need.
