JOLIET – Police found a stolen handgun Saturday after officers were called to a suspicious van in the 900 block of Campbell Street in Joliet.
Deputy Chief Ed Gregory said that shortly before 10:30 p.m. witnesses suspected drugs were being sold from a conversion van parked on the street and called police.
"Officers found three men inside – Xavier C. E. Sallie, 18, a 20-year-old passenger and a Hispanic man who fled out the rear of the vehicle when they approached. The officers stayed with the two men at the van," Gregory said.
The occupants reportedly admitted smoking marijuana in the van and police found a baggie of marijuana inside and a handgun under the driver's seat.
"The gun is registered as a stolen firearm," Gregory said.
Sallie, who lives in the same block, was arrested and booked into the Will County jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
His passenger was released without being charged.
