Gem Spa in Batavia closes following prostitution charges

BATAVIA – Jue Xiang, 35, of Chicago was charged with one count of prostitution and one count of practicing massage therapy without a state license at Gem Spa, 330 E. Wilson St., Batavia, following a Dec. 1 massage parlor compliance check by Batavia police, according to a news release. It states this is the second prostitution arrest at Gem Spa within the past seven months.

Batavia City Administrator Laura Newman announced that Gem Spa has since closed and is out of business, when she spoke at the city council meeting Dec. 5.

At 5:31 p.m. Dec. 1, a Batavia police undercover investigator entered Gem Spa, and during the course of receiving a massage from Xiang, she allegedly offered to perform a sexual act for additional money, the release stated, noting that the undercover officer immediately stopped the massage and notified other investigators.

Xiang resides in the 200 block of West 22nd Place, Chicago, according to the report, which describes the charges as Class A misdemeanors. She was released after posting bond, and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 20, the report stated.

This is the second such arrest at Gem Spa this year, the reported stated, noting that on May 12, investigators from the Batavia Police Department conducted a similar compliance check, resulting in an arrest that day, a case still pending in the Kane County court system.
