Crystal Lake real estate attorney suspended 30 days for mismanaging funds

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Crystal Lake real estate attorney is suspended for 30 days after he mismanaged funds, according to the Illinois Supreme Court.

James F. Bishop, who was licensed in 1966 and practices at 550 W. Woodstock St., mismanaged $1,282.31 in funds that he agreed to hold as an escrowee while representing the sellers in a commercial real estate transaction.

His suspension, recommended by the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, will be effective on Dec. 9.

Bishop’s law firm was established in 1973. He also practices in the fields of land use and zoning, criminal defense, corporation and incorporation and environmental and natural resources.

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission is an Illinois Supreme Court agency that investigates alleged conduct by Illinois attorneys, holds hearings on specific charges and recommends discipline when warranted. The commission is composed of seven members, three of which are nonlawyers.
