Varicose veins can be very embarrassing and painful. While treatments are available that involve closing off or removing swollen veins, some people prefer to avoid surgery and try more holistic therapies instead. Raw juice therapy is one way to improve varicose veins.
Your heart pumps blood throughout your body; the arteries push blood out to the tissues, and the veins bring the blood back to the heart. These hard-working veins rely on one-way valves, along with surrounding skeletal muscles, to keep the blood flowing upwards to the heart. Because they’re often working against gravity, veins can wear out or become damaged and swollen. Standing or sitting in one position for a long period of time creates pressure on the valves inside the veins. Valves can leak, causing blood to pool in the legs; this stretches out the veins, causing them to swell and bulge. This is made even worse by excess body fat, which inhibits blood flow.
Many raw juices have nutrients that can help strengthen veins and break down hard protein deposits that can accumulate in veins and prohibit blood flow. Dark berries, including cherries, blueberries, blackberries, and dark grapes and currants have a high concentration of flavonoids and other natural chemicals that strengthen blood vessel walls and help lessen varicose veins.
Spinach, carrots, oranges, cranberries, and strawberries also have essential nutrients that are part of a healthy juicing regimen.
Pineapple juice contains the enzyme bromelain, which breaks up a protein called fibrin that can accumulate in varicose veins, also prohibiting blood flow. Bromelain can also break up blood clots, which can be a serious side effect of varicose veins.
Drink at least 8 ounces of raw juice each day, and make sure the juices are fresh and unpasteurized. Pasteurization breaks down many important nutrients that are needed to protect veins. For more information, please contact:
