Rita Stone

PROPHETSTOWN – Rita Stone, 70, of Prophetstown, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown.

Rita was born Jan. 20, 1946, in Ottawa, to Wesley and Minnie D. (Boetto) Quinn. She was educated at Marseilles grade schools, and was a graduate of Marseilles High School. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Rita married John A. “Jack” Stone on Dec. 23, 1978, in Rockton. She taught for 37 years at Prophetstown Elementary School, retiring in 2005. Rita was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown and the Illinois Education Association. She also served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 94. She enjoyed camping, hiking, photography, and gardening. She was an avid cat lover.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; one son, Robert (Kiah) Stone of Cambridge; and one grandson, Connor Stone.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown, with the Rev. Francis Wawryszuk officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley and St. Catherine Catholic Church.
