PRINCETON — Robert Michael Rueter shuffled off this mortal coil on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria after being diagnosed with cancer. He was 71.

Robert was the eldest son of Robert Dale and May Ann (Hershfelt) Rueter. He was a graduate of St. Theresa High School and Pittsburg State University. He taught first at Eisenhower High School in Decatur, then served in the U.S. Army. Upon honorable discharge he returned to Decatur, where he taught English at MacArthur High School.

Bob was a favorite teacher of many, engaging students in the performing arts, and taking teams to successful competitions for dramatics. After a turn seeking fame and fortune in the bustle of Hollywood, Bob returned to teaching English at Princeton High School in Princeton. In retirement, Bob continued to take great pleasure in golf, games of chance and his Siamese cats.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William. He is survived by his parents; a brother, Scott (Melinda); three nephews, Michael, Matthew and Griffin; and a niece, Kaitlyn.

Pursuant to Bob’s request, there will be no funeral or visitation, and his remains will be interred in a private family ceremony.
