DIXON – As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dixon prison remained on full lockdown, which means, among other things, no visitors.
The incident that spawned the security measure remains under investigation, so the Illinois Department of Corrections is declining to release any details.
According to IDOC spokeswoman Nicole J. Wilson, the prison was placed on lockdown at noon Tuesday, "as we investigate an incident involving several offenders."
"This is an active investigation and we cannot release details at this time," Wilson said in an email Tuesday. "Please know that all offenders at Dixon Correctional Center are accounted for, and the community was never at risk."
Wilson could not provide a timeline for when the investigation might be complete, but said when it is lifted, that information will be available at www.illinois.gov/idoc. IDOC also has a hotline, 877-840-3220, which provides limited information on facilities that are on lockdown.
