The former home of Elmer’s Dog House at 1250 S. Broadway Ave. in Montgomery will reopen in late August or early September as a full-service restaurant, with craft beers and ales and a full bar, according to information presented to the village board Monday evening.
Board members did their part to expedite the opening of the Pig Dog Pub by voicing unanimous support to a request to create a liquor license for the business.
The board is expected to cast a final ballot on the license during their next meeting on Monday, July 11.
The Pig Dog Pub will be owned by longtime local developers Harold and Rebecca Oliver and managed by their son, Mason Oliver, who currently manages Scoreboard’s Pub on Douglas Road in Oswego and the Millhurst Ale House in Yorkville.
Harold Oliver told the board the Pig Dog Pub will “not be a bar or a tavern, but a family-friendly place.” Oliver added it will be similar to Scoreboard’s in Oswego, but “not a sports bar.”
Oliver said the building – constructed in 1948 – is currently undergoing an extensive renovation. When completed, he said it will have a total of 25 big-screen televisions, licensed gaming, a pool table for league play and a full-service restaurant menu.
Rebecca Oliver told the board that the Olivers chose the Pig Dog name in honor of Mason’s first dog, Doris, an English bulldog that died last December at the age of 12. The dog, she said, was nicknamed “pig dog” for the snorting and grunting sounds it would make.
She added that a photo of the dog will be hung inside the business and its birthday – April 1 – will be celebrated with special promotions and events for patrons with the proceeds going to local charities.
