Plainfield toddler drowns in Homer Glen pool

HOMER GLEN – A family gathering turned into tragedy Sunday when a 17-month old Plainfield boy drowned in a swimming pool.

David Garcia Jr. had been at a Father's Day party held in the 14000 block of Erin Court of Homer Glen, Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Tom Budde said.

"The family all went inside and briefly lost track of the boy for a minute or two. His mother came out to find him in the pool on top of the partially submerged solar cover," Budde said.

Northwest Homer Fire paramedics and sheriff's police were called to the house at 7:26 p.m.

Budde said the mother performed CPR until paramedics arrived and the toddler was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. The Will County Coroner's office said David was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m. An autopsy performed Monday confirmed drowning was the cause of death.

Budde said the incident remains under investigation but no charges were expected.
