HUNTLEY – American Legion Post 673 will conduct a formal American flag retirement ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday – Flag Day – in front of the legion home at 11712 Coral St., Huntley.

Members of the public can drop off worn and tattered flags at the home at any time, Chaplain Tim Nash said.

According to the U.S. Flag Code, the flag “should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning” when it is no longer a fitting emblem for display.
