Stanley M. ‘Stan’ Adams

PEORIA – Stanley M. “Stan” Adams, 81, of Peoria, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Stan was born Aug. 19, 1934, in Sterling, to Stanley L. and Helen (Henderson) Adams, along with his surviving twin sister, Ann (Leland) Leak of New Mexico. Stan married Joyce Romine in 1958, in Canton.

After serving in the Army, Stan graduated from Bradley University and went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from Illinois State University. He was an accomplished commercial artist, and art instructor at Illinois Central College, retiring in 2000 after 32 years of teaching. He was well-known in the Peoria area for his work in watercolor. He led workshops in Colorado and New Mexico, and his art was displayed in galleries around the area and throughout the country.

He also is survived by Joyce; their two children, Lora (Andrew) McCormick and Dane (Jennifer) Adams, both of Fayetteville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, George, Katie, Michael, and Erin McCormick, and Uly, Naomi, and Kelly Adams; and Betty Wildman, with whom he shared his life for the past 14 years.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. March 12, and a celebration of Stan’s life at 1 p.m. March 12 at Union Church in Brimfield. Burial will be at 3 p.m. March 12 at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Cremation rites have been accorded. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria is handling arrangements.
