MOUNT MORRIS – After a 2-year dry spell, the village once again has a laundromat.
The Mat, owned by Matt and Noel Dusing of Mount Morris, opened for business on state Route 64 in mid-January.
It's open 24-7, and boasts 13 top-loading washers, two large front-loading washers, and 13 dryers.
"We'll have at least three more large front loaders in the near future," said Matt Dusing, who has spent the last several months cleaning, repairing machines, and redoing the walls and floor.
Running a laundromat was not exactly what he had in mind a year ago, when he quit his job at E.D. Etnyre in Oregon, where he had worked for 9 years.
"I was going to flip houses, but that kind of fell flat," he said. "I was looking for another opportunity. I had seen the sign at the laundromat, and then my pastor at the Evan Free Church said 'Why don't you look at the laundromat?' That kind of sparked my interest.
"We've had lots of positive comments," he added. "It's been very encouraging."
One happy customer is Christina McBride, who lugged in three large baskets full of laundry Thursday and started up a line of machines.
"It's nice to have this back in town," McBride said. "I was going to either Byron or Oregon, and this is a lot more convenient."
