Sailors from six Naval Station Great Lakes commands were honored at the fourth annual Sailor of the Year (SOY) awards dinner at the Port O' Call Jan. 23.
The event was sponsored by the Navy League and consisted of a dinner, annual meetings between the Lake County Council and Chicago Council, an address by Rear Adm. Stephen C. Evans, commander, Naval Service Training Command and the presentation of the 2015 SOY awards.
"These sailors were recognized as standouts among their commands," said Evans. "It's important to give out these type of awards because it highlights excellence. Our Navy values excellence. Being able to bring together sailors from different commands who are the best of the best of where they are. This raises them up and awards them for their effort."

NOSC: Sailor of the Year, ET1 Bryan L. Goforth; Junior Sailor of the Year, YN2 Santiago Robles; Bluejacket of the Year, PS3 Octavian Beydoyafriday; Reserve Sailor of the Year, LS1 Kevin D. Chalmers; Reserve Junior Sailor of the Year, Adewunmi S. Sulaiman; Reserve Bluejacket of the Year, AD3 Kevin M. Stenson.
