Firewood Restaurant and Sports Lounge in McHenry closes after 8 years

McHENRY – A McHenry restaurant closed its doors this week.

Firewood Restaurant and Sports Lounge at 2314 W. Route 120 closed Dec. 30, said Doug Martin, the city’s director of economic development, citing information provided by one of the owners.

The owners did not return a call for comment, and Martin didn’t have any other information about the closure or what would happen to the space.

The property is listed for sale. The listing describes the property as bank owned with a “highly motivated” seller.

The restaurant opened on the east end of McHenry in December 2007, according to information provided by the city of McHenry. The building was remodeled and reopened about three years ago.

The owners of Firewood also own five other restaurants, including  Fatman Pizza Pub in Gurnee, Primo Italian American Cuisine in Gurnee, Lake House in Lake Villa and Lake Bluff, and Fatman Sports Lounge and Lanes.

The menu featured burgers, pasta, pizza and a craft beer selection. The restaurant also highlighted its 40-foot salad bar, which included more than 50 items and two homemade soups.
