JOLIET — Police are still investigating the death of an Aurora man who was killed Wednesday in Joliet.
Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner said early Friday afternoon there are no suspects in the killing of Jeevit Rai, 20, who was shot near Jam Food Mart, 105 S. Briggs St.
Witnesses heard shots Wednesday outside the store.
Rai came into the store, told the clerk he had been shot and asked for an ambulance before collapsing, police said. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy Thursday showed Rai died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Roechner said no witnesses have come forward to the police about the incident.
“The more calls, the more people know things, the better,” he said.
The police are canvassing the area around the scene, he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 815-724-3020 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734.
Rai was born in Ukraine and was once arrested by Aurora police on a charge of aggravated assault. A bicycle was found in the store’s parking lot and detectives believe Rai was riding it before the shooting.
