McHENRY – The McHenry County Sheriff's Office has identified the three area 18-year-olds killed in a Friday afternoon car crash in unincorporated McHenry.
Kelly Cronin of Island Lake, James Seward of McHenry and Promise Williamsen of Holiday Hills were killed in the one-car crash, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Seward, the driver, and Cronin, the left rear passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene after the crash at 2:11 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Lily Lake Road.
Williamsen, the front seat passenger, was transported by McHenry Township Fire Protection District to Centegra Hospital – McHenry and was pronounced dead about 4 p.m.
Williamsen was the owner of the 1994 Chevrolet Camaro in which the three were traveling.
She was a student at McHenry County College, according to a Saturday afternoon Facebook post from the school. According to Williamsen's Facebook page, she was taking automotive classes at the college.
"We are keeping her loved ones in our thoughts, as well as the loved ones of the two others who also lost their lives from that accident," the MCC post read.
Another Facebook post from Chapel Hill Tire and Automotive in McHenry mourned the loss of the teens and indicated Seward was a technician at the shop.
Friends of the deceased posted tributes on social media, and many went to the scene of the crash Saturday to visit and add to a makeshift memorial on the side of Lily Lake Road.
All three were wearing seat belts and both front airbags deployed, the release said.
The crash is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
