CREST HILL – There’s a new warden at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill.
Randy Pfister was appointed to the position Thursday, the Department of Corrections said in a news release.
Pfister has most recently been warden of the Pontiac Correctional Center. He is a Pontiac native who started as a correctional officer there in 1981.
He has served as the assistant warden of Operations at the Illinois Youth Center in Joliet, and Jobs Coach and Acting manager of programs at Sheridan Correctional Center. He also has been a unit manager and assistant warden of Operations at Stateville.
“I am proud to be back at Stateville Correctional Center working with a great staff and serving the people of Illinois by protecting public safety,” Pfister said in the statement. “I look forward to doing a complete review of the facility’s operational structure and making adjustments where necessary.”
“Warden Pfister is a proven leader,” IDOC Acting Director John Baldwin said in the statement. “I am confident that his diverse background and experience working in maximum security facilities will serve staff and the offender population well.”
Pfister will oversee the Stateville maximum and medium security units, as well as the Northern Reception and Classification Center, which is the state’s largest intake facility for newly admitted prisoners.
