BERWYN – With renovations completed on the building, Torres Fresh Market has opened a new location at 6227 W. 26th St. in Berwyn.
In 2013, the city of Berwyn approved the grocer, which moved into the building that was home to Great West Electrical Supply Inc. for 58 years.
Torres Fresh Market is the fifth grocery store owned by Adolfo Linares. There are Torres Supermercados in Cicero and Melrose Park, and he owns Berkeley Finer Food Stores in Berkeley and Batavia.
The Berwyn location includes a full-service grocery store and a taquería. The grocery store has produce and meat departments and a bakery.
Linares, a former Berwyn resident, chose the location to meet the market demand for a local grocer in east Berwyn, according to a Berwyn Development Corporation news release.
“Our goal is not only to serve our customers but also to serve their families and our community,” he said in the release.
Great West Electrical Supply Inc. owner Mike Kocoras remembers Linares walking by the building as a young boy and saying the site would make a great grocery store, the release stated.
Torres Fresh Market is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The taquería is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
