Atlas Xtreme Team promotes 20 to new rank

Atlas Xtreme Team Grappling Club in Yorkville had a busy summer. After hosting its preliminary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) seminar with Professor Roy Dean in May, several members attended another BJJ seminar with world renowned Professor Roy Harris. A week later in June, several students and coaches competed in the US Grappling Submission-Only tournament in Oak Lawn. The AXT competitors earned three silver medals and three bronze medals.

One week later, AXT sent competitors to the annual Tohkon Classic Judo Tournament where silver was won by Haley Irvine and the bronze medal was earned by Elijah Hartford.
In August, 20 students earned Judo stripe promotions between the adult and kids classes. The following AXT students earned a new Judo belt rank:
Yellow belt – Aidan Perona
Orange belt – Hannah Wolf - Naomi Redman - Adam Hartford - Elijah Hartford
Green belt – Alex Warren
Brown belt 3rd degree – Justin Hames
Brown belt 1st degree – Kyle Backus – Joe Perona
Black belt 2nd degree – Tim Wolf – Bill Vitek
There were also promotions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu earned by several members of the AXT adult class:
White belt 1st stripe – Brian Brasfield – Hannah Wolf
White belt 2nd stripe – Emily Brown – Julia Pelech
White belt 3rd stripe – Justin Hames – Spencer Feldbaumer – Alex Warren
Blue belt – Ed Wright – Kyle Backus – Joe Perona – Bill Vitek – Stephen Johnson – Tim Wolf

AXT had one student attend the AAU Judo National Championships in Milwaukee, Wisc. in August. Alex Warren was awarded the silver medal in his first National judo competition.

This month, several AXT coaches will travel to Mississippi to again train with Professor Roy Dean, and students are preparing for multiple upcoming local competitions in October and November, including the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) Illinois Open and the Irwin Cohen Memorial Judo Tournament. In addition, Ashley Klingberg will represent Team USA in Argentina to compete in the Pan-American Judo Championships.
