WILLOWBROOK – The Westview Hills Middle School boys cross country team earned plenty of hardware at the Class AA state meet on Oct. 17.
The team placed third out of 25 schools, matching a third-place showing at the 1998 state meet.
Additionally, Westmont's Ben Cosentino (16th, 10:58) and Westmont's Aaron Lu (20th, 11:02) were all-state (top-25) finishers on the two-mile course.
Piyush Mekla of Westmont (11:29), Chinmay Amin of Westmont (11:35), Vidhur Gunda of Westmont (11:49), Joey Morris of Clarendon Hills (11:51) and Mitchell Davis of Clarendon Hills (12:27) also had outstanding races for Westview, which was making its third trip to state since 2012.
"I am extremely proud of our cross-country team," head coach Josh Vance said in a release. "We had an incredible season and it was due to the dedication and spirit of these boys. During the season, they never gave up, they continued to excel and they went to state with something to prove. They arrived ready to compete and they came back as victors. They should all be proud of their accomplishments."
