Sycamore man faces DUI charges after crash sends 3 to hospital

CORTLAND – A Sycamore man appeared in court Wednesday to face charges of driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash near Cortland that sent three people to the hospital.

Noah W. Hansen, 21, of the 100 block of Governor Street, Sycamore, appeared in court Wednesday on charges of DUI and driving with a suspended license.

Police said Hansen was driving east on Pleasant Street near Fenstermaker Road outside Cortland at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday when his 1991 Dodge pickup veered onto the shoulder.

Hansen overcorrected and the vehicle went into a cornfield, where it rolled over at least three times before coming to a stop, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Hansen, along with passengers Cassie N. Lowe, 21, of the 14600 block of Pleasant Street, Sycamore, and Corben B. Campuzano, 21, of the 500 block of North Ninth Street, DeKalb, were taken to Kishwaukee Hospital, police said.

Hansen and Campuzano were treated for their injuries and released, but Lowe was later taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Details about her condition weren’t immediately available.

Hansen appeared by video for a bond hearing Wednesday at the DeKalb County Courthouse.

He appeared to have bandages on his arms and hands.

He faces charges of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

The most serious charge, driving under the influence, is typically punishable by less than one year in jail.

DeKalb County Presiding Judge Robbin Stuckert released Hansen on a $3,000 recognizance bond Wednesday morning.

He plans to hire a private attorney and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 14.
