Amber Moreno becomes new Señorita Cicero

CICERO – The crown was passed in Cicero on Sept. 10 with the naming of the 2015-16 Senorita Cicero.

The Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee named 19-year-old Amber Moreno as the town’s new Miss Cicero. Moreno, a Morton College student, was followed by runners-up Cynthia Dorantes, 18, and Jasmine Salgado, 20.

This year’s pageant theme was the portrayal of strong Mexican female historical legends, folklore characters and Aztec goddesses. Moreno chose to portray La Llorona.

As Senorita/Miss Cicero, Moreno will make public appearances and do community work throughout the year. She got a quick start by appearing at the annual Latin American Motorcycle Association Cicero Chapter 911 Memorial Run ceremony Sept. 12. She also will appear as a guest at the Chicago’s Mexican Independence Day Grito celebration at Harrison Park in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood with the consulate general of Mexico.

As Miss Cicero, Moreno will continue a tradition of public service by visiting children’s hospitals, mentoring youth and volunteering. For information, call Frank J. Aguilar at 630-886-6012.
