PLAINFIELD – A campaign representative for congressional candidate Tonia Khouri said the location of a fundraiser Aug. 23 was changed after concerns were raised about it being hosted on Plainfield Township property.
The "Yummy Chicken Dinner" fundraiser for Khouri, a 2016 candidate for Illinois' 11th Congressional District and a DuPage County Board member, was moved from the Plainfield Township Community Center at 15014 S. Des Plaines St. to Southern Belles restaurant at 15051 Van Dyke Road.
"We felt it was best for everyone," said Danielle Rowe, director of outreach for the campaign. "Because there was a problem, we moved the venue."
Township trustee Ernie Knight and Plainfield resident Jim Racich both said during a board meeting Wednesday they were perturbed by the use of a township building for a political fundraiser.
The township owns the building but the Plainfield Township Park District manages rental space.
Rowe said the district has committed to display a sign redirecting fundraiser attendees to the correct venue.
Racich, who is a Plainfield village trustee, said Friday he was glad the event was relocated.
"I think they should be cogent of what they use [the community center] for," he said.
The fundraiser will take place from 3 to 5 p.m.
