After finishing in first place during the regular season of the Southwest Suburban Softball 14U division with a 15-2 record, the 13U Minooka Magic won the Southwest Suburban Softball 14U Travel Tournament on Wednesday.
The Magic defeated the 14U Lockport Prowl, 7-1, in the championship game. The Magic offense was led by Desiree Anderson’s single, triple, and three RBIs, along with two hits and two RBIs from Brooke Sulima. Kynsey Cryder had an RBI double to extend the Magic lead in the sixth inning, while Morgan Garcia added two hits, Lauren Smith had a double, and Nicole Lovato had a single and two runs scored.
Sammy Norman secured the defense with several catches in center field, while Amber Zilinger and Allie Vandergrift played a flawless second base and Faith Cunning held down right field. Lauren Smith pitched the complete-game victory, allowing only one run on four hits,
Coach Cindy Norman led the Magic to a 27-7 record, including the regular-season Southwest Suburban Softball league championship, the tournament championship in the Southwest Suburban Softball League 14U division, and a third-place finish in a Peoria NSA qualifier tournament. Assistant coaches included Chris Norman, Art Vandergrift and Allison Anderson.
