West Chicago police: Gang member charged in shooting

WEST CHICAGO – Gang member Jesus Calvo, of Plainfield, has been charged with shooting a man in West Chicago on June 11.

The 19-year-old Calvo has been charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a gang member and felony possession or use of a weapon, according to Paul Darrah, spokesman for the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.

"Calvo's bond court date was on June 13, and his bond is set at $100,000," Darrah said. "His next court date is June 29, and John Kinsella will be the judge."

The shooting occurred about 11:27 p.m. June 11 in the 1200 block of Allen Avenue in West Chicago, Darrah said. The victim was a 23-year-old male from West Chicago, according to West Chicago Chief of Police Michael Uplegger.

"We haven't been able to talk with the victim, so we don't know what happened prior to the shooting to lead to this," Uplegger said. "We have no updates on the victim's current condition, just that he was shot multiple times."

Calvo, alleged member of the street gang, Pachuco, is currently being held at DuPage County Jail with bail set at $1 million, according to Darrah.
