GURNEE – The Warren Area Lacrosse Association (WALA), a Gurnee Park District affiliate, recently announced the Warren Township High School Boys Varsity Team won the Class B Lacrosse Cup State Championship on May 30 against Maine South. Warren won 7-6 at North Central College in Naperville. The win was secured in an overtime, sudden-death goal, according to a news release.

Head Coach Greg Janczak said the team "came together to battle" with a 20-2 overall season record.

"The weather in the stadium was cold and rainy, and players and fans alike were soaked through, but nothing was going to stop our boys," Janczak said. "During regulation play, we saw a tremendous team effort and were rewarded with outstanding performances from Tanner James (4 goals), Jeremiah Heredia (outstanding saves) and of course, the sudden-death goal from Charlie Hildestad."

Janczak said Maine South was a solid opponent, with the entire game being "back and forth."
