LOMBARD – New electronic pay boxes and a pay-by-phone option are now available to Lombard Metra users, according to a village news release.
Beginning June 1, the daily fee parking pay boxes were in two locations: south of the pedestrian underpass near the ramp and stairs and west of the Hammerschmidt daily fee lot. A box north of the underpass near the ramp and stairs will be available June 6.
The boxes accept coins, bills and credit/debit cards. No change or refunds will be given. The pay boxes are marked with instructions, and village of Lombard staff will be on hand during the first few morning commutes to assist and answer questions.
In addition to the boxes, a new mobile payment option allows daily fee parkers to skip the trip to the pay boxes and pay for parking directly from their cellphones.
The pay-by-phone option includes a transaction fee of 37 cents in addition to the daily parking fee.
Smartphone customers can download and register for the Passport Parking app from the Apple Store or Google Play to pay by phone. Users also can register for the service online at passportparking.com/park or via Facebook.
When using the service, daily fee parkers in Lombard will enter Zone Number 60148 and the number of their parking space. Users will be required to load a minimum of $10 onto their account before using the pay-by-phone option.
The daily fee parking rate for all downtown Lombard commuter parking lots will remain at $1.25. The money collected from parking sales is used strictly for parking-related expenses, the village release stated.
Free parking is available on Saturdays and Sundays, certain holidays and after 3 p.m. on weekdays. No overnight parking is permitted.
