Woodridge District 68 names new special education director

WOODRIDGE – Woodridge School District 68 will have a new director of special education come July, according to a district news release.

Anne Bowers, who has 13 years of experience in special education, will join the district as director July 1.

The district's Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment at a meeting May 18.

Bowers will replace Director Nancy Ericksen, who will continue with the district as associate director of special education until her retirement at the end of the 2015-16 school year.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Woodridge 68,” Bowers said in the release. “The district has a strong reputation of being innovative and student-centered, and I am looking forward to working with the strong leadership team in order to continue to advance learning for all students.”

Bowers joins District 68 from Wilmette Public Schools District 39, where she has been the assistant director of student and special services for the past six years.

She began her career as a learning behavior specialist for five years at both the elementary and middle school levels and then worked as a student services coordinator.

Bowers is a current doctor of education candidate at the University of Illinois. She holds a master's degree in education from Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin.
