PLAINFIELD – For the first time, three high school students have been selected for $500 scholarships from Plainfield Township.
Veronica Turturillo from Plainfield North, Marissa Campobasso from Plainfield South and Dana Schrock from Plainfield Central were awarded the scholarships Wednesday night.
It’s the fourth year the township has awarded Plainfield Township Youth Excellence Scholarships to two current or graduating high school students living in Plainfield Township.
This year, Plainfield Township Trustee Matthew Starr said the township’s Youth Committee was deadlocked on the three finalists. So it decided to give awards to all of them.
“We have no doubt that they will be successful not only in college, but well into their careers,” said Starr, Youth Committee chairman. “We view these scholarships as an investment to the students we choose every year, as well as the community.”
The youth excellence scholarships are given as a college scholarship or Leadership in Academic Program Scholarship. College scholarships require a cumulative GPA of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale, two letters of recommendation, an official high school transcript, cover letter and application, as well as a plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a bachelors degree. The Leadership in Academic Program Scholarship requires a cumulative 3.5 GPA on a 5.0 scale, an official high school transcript, proof of acceptance into an academic program, application and a cover letter specifying how the student’s participation in the program will help the student and Plainfield Township.
