GLEN ELLYN – Students at Glen Ellyn's Abraham Lincoln Elementary School – 576 of them – sought May 6 to hop their way to the Guinness world record for most people playing hopscotch at the same time.
The attempt was also part of All Children Exercising Simultaneously Day.
The idea for the event came to life when Abraham Lincoln parent Dawn Smith heard her kids talking about Guinness World Records and asking how they could get into the book.
The current hopscotch title-holder is Round Hills Elementary School in Williamsport, Pa., with 359 players. Their record was achieved May 20, 2013.
Guinness will verify Abraham Lincoln's documents and video to determine the outcome of the school's effort.
