RIVERSIDE – Riverside Brookfield High School is ranked 10th out of 72 Illinois schools and 454th out of 2,332 schools nationally on the recently released Washington Post’s 2015 Most Challenging High Schools, according to a news release from school officials.
Of the approximately 22,000 U.S. public high schools, only 11 percent made the America’s Most Challenging High Schools list, officials said in the release.
The rankings were based on a Challenge Index, created by taking the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year and dividing that by the number of seniors who graduated in May or June.
The schools are then ranked based on their Challenge Index ratios, and only those with a ratio of at least 1.00 – that is a school with as many tests as graduates – make the national list,
Principal Kristin Smetana said.
“This national ranking demonstrates our philosophy at Riverside Brookfield High School,” Smetana said in the release. “By establishing high expectations for all students and allowing open access to rigorous curriculum taught by outstanding teachers, students can reach their full potential.”
