JOLIET – Joliet Central High School students in Stephen Seper’s English 3 class went above and beyond during a recent classroom assignment, demonstrating compassion and care for the homeless.
Jacqulin Aguilera, Ariana Contreras, Maria Barrios, and Daniel Rodriguez recently organized and held a "Just for Fun Pajama Party" at Daybreak Center..
As part of the junior English curriculum, all students are required to complete four hours of community service and complete a presentation about their experience.
The students were not alone in making this event a success as foods instructor Rochelle Bjelland provided cookies and supplies for decorating. Senior Hana Cromer also volunteered for face painting. The students made pancakes and had a chocolate fondue station for the residents. Children at the center received balloons, gift bags, and glow sticks.
