Police Reports: Hinsdale and Darien for April 10

HINSDALE

Property damage

A 17-year-old male juvenile of Hinsdale was charged at 2:18 a.m. April 3 with criminal damage to property in the 300 block of West Hickory Street. Police observed the juvenile throw an incendiary device at the victim’s house. The victim’s vehicle also was reported damaged.

Theft

• A traffic sign and post were reported stolen between noon March 11 and noon March 30 near Washington Street and Ayres Avenue. The sign and post were estimated to cost $162.

• A bike was reported stolen at 2:30 p.m. April 5 in the 400 block of South Washington Street. The owner believed the bike was stolen from the alleyway behind his house. The bike was valued at $250. Neighbors said they saw scrappers in the area at the time of the theft.

Identity theft

• A Hinsdale resident’s information was used to open an account with a utility company, the resident reported April 2. The account was open between Feb. 1 and April 1, resulting in the resident getting a bill for $105.98.

• Someone used a Hinsdale resident’s information to file a tax return, the resident reported at 4:46 p.m. March 31.

Hit-and-run

A hit-and-run accident was reported at 6:45 a.m. April 7 near 55th Street and Garfield Avenue. Police said the driver of a black car stuck a tractor trailer and left the area without exchanging information.

DARIEN

Domestic battery

• Ali Akel, 36, of the 7800 block of Del Court, was charged April 1 with domestic battery in the 7800 block of Del Court.

• Michael Walsh, 49, of the 2400 block of Marlborough Lane, Darien, was charged April 2 with domestic battery in the 2400 block of Marlborough Lane.

Underage alcohol possession

• Nathan Overman, 18, of the 7000 block of Seminole Drive, Darien, was cited April 1 for possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor in the 6800 block of Wilmette Avenue.

• Matthew Marrera, 18, of the 100 block of Holly Avenue, Darien, was cited April 1 for possession of alcohol by a minor in the 6800 block of Wilmette Avenue.

• A 17-year-old male juvenile of Darien was cited April 1 for possession of alcohol by a minor in the 6800 block of Wilmette Avenue.

Theft

• A Chicago Blackhawks flag was reported stolen from a porch April 4 in the 900 block of Belair Drive.

• An unattended cell phone was reported stolen April 4 at McDonalds, 809 Plainfield Road.

• Joseph Karmia, 34, of the of the 100 block of Second Street, Downers Grove, was cited April 6 for retail theft at CVS Pharmacy, 8325 Lemont Road.

Traffic violation

• Sharod Johnson, 31, of the 700 block of South Seventh Street, Maywood, was charged April 3 with driving on a suspended or revoked driver’s license near 75th and Adams streets.

• Elizabeth Shefner, 55, of the 9S000 block of Lake Drive, Willowbrook, was charged April 6 with improper turn, suspended registration, driving while license suspended and no insurance in the 400 block of Plainfield Road.

Property damage

• A vehicle was reported damaged April 1 while it was parked in the parking lot of Extended Stay America, 2345 Sokol Court.

• A mailbox was reported knocked off its post overnight April 2 in the 200 block of 69th Street.
