Yukich wins out over Daley in Homer Glen mayoral race

HOMER GLEN – Village Trustee George Yukich started out earlier this year as a write-in candidate for Homer Glen mayor.

On Tuesday night, he came out on top with enough votes to become the village’s next mayor, edging out a win over incumbent James Daley Jr., according to unofficial figures from the Will County Clerk’s office.

With 16 of 16 precincts reporting, Yukich received 2,514 votes to Daley Jr.’s 1,694 votes.

In the race for village clerk, Ann Holtz won with 2,480 votes, while her opponent Gale Skrobuton received just 1,505 votes.

In the six-way race for three trustee seats, Beth Rodgers won a spot with 2,511 votes; Christina Neitzke-Troike won with 2,146 votes; and Carlo Caprio won with 1,764. Marcia DeVivo, Kevin Hoffmeister and Jay Bradarich Sr. all fell short.

It’s the ending to a fairly odd story that began ahead of the February primary – when Yukich and village trustee candidate Rodgers were thrown off the April 7 ballot over a question concerning their candidate paperwork. Nearly two dozen people mounted efforts to run as write-ins to force a primary and help Yukich and Rodgers get back on the ballot.
