RINGWOOD – The loud noises that some in the Ringwood area mistook for an explosion turned out to be people using a combustible-like chemical to cut down trees, a McHenry County Sheriff's Office sergeant said.
The sheriff's office, along with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District – which was out in the area investigating an odor of natural gas – identified no other possible cause of the noises, Sgt. Porfirio Campos-Cruz said.
The work, which was happening in the 5500 block of North Ridgeway Road in Ringwood, caused no damage to property or people, he said.
