JOLIET – The BP gas station on Jefferson Street is temporarily closed until next week as it transitions to new ownership.
Paul Dandona, the gas station’s new owner, said the station will be closed until potentially noon Monday. The station is located at the corner of Jefferson Street and Hammes Avenue.
On Thursday, gas prices at the station read $0 and customers who came to the front entrance saw only a sign saying “Closed.” Dandona said he would have to change it to “temporarily closed,” given the customer confusion.
Within the next several days, he plans to spruce up the building by cleaning up the interior and fixing the coolers. He said some of the pumps were not working and he plans to fix them, as well.
“I think we want to open up with new merchandise for the customers and make sure everything is working,” he said.
The previous owners decided to move on, he said.
He said Monday’s re-opening is tentative. He has to get approval of city licenses for the gas station first.
